Basic Metal Key with no Transponder

If your entire key is  metal then your key is definitely a basic key without a transponder.  If it has a black pastic head, it is may be a transponder.  Most cars made after 1998 use transponder keys.

A basic metal key is very easy for us to duplicate as long as we have a key to copy.  If you dont have a key available we can still work with you but will need to use specialiezd tools and techniques to discover the proper cut code and completely fabricate a key for you.

 VATS Key

Vats stands for Vehicle Anti Theft System. Lots of people refer to this type of key, as a " computer Chip key". This key or "Chip" has nothing to do with a computer, nor is it a chip. But because of the popularity of calling it a computer chip key, so will we. So that we don’t confuse. The black chip on the blade of the key is actually a resister. GM first started using the Vats key in 1986 on the Corvettes, then some of the Cadillac’s, ect. GM uses 15 different resistors in their vats keys. Just looking at the keys you can’t tell the difference.

 Transponder Key

Transponder keys may also be called "chip keys". Transponder keys are automotive ignition keys with signal-emitting circuits built inside.

When the key is turned in the ignition cylinder, the car's computer transmits a radio signal to the transponder circuit. The circuit has no battery; it is energized by the radio signal itself. The circuit typically has a computer chip that is programmed to respond by sending a coded signal back to the car's computer. If the circuit does not respond or if the code is wrong and the engine will not start. Many cars will not work properly if the chip is used by a thief. Chip Keys successfully protect cars from theft in two ways: forcing the ignition cylinder won't start the car, and the keys are difficult to duplicate. This is why chip keys are popular in modern cars and help decrease car theft.

Remote Head Key

Remote head keys have a metal blade that is inserted in the ignition to start a car.  The head key is the remote for the car.  They have replaced most older style separate remotes.  We have all of the tools necessary to program these remote head keys to your cars computer so that it will start the vehicle.

Smart Key

Smart Keys are keys that may remain inside your pocket at all times.  You approach the vehicle and the doors will unlock by just touching the handle, and when you enter the vehicle you don’t need to pull out your key, you just press a button or turn the ignition and the car starts.  Cars equipped with this kind of key are extremely nice.  A convenience you will pay for if you ever lose your car key.  Smart Keys are fairly expensive. We have special tools that allow us to program these special smart keys to your cars computer so they will start the car and the buttons will perform their designed functions.
