Master Key System

Security comes first in any commercial building, and when the locks go in you may want different employees to reach different parts of it. That is what a master key system is for.

With master keying, one key opens many doors. You carry a single key that opens the building and your office; each employee’s key opens only what that person needs.

It is an effective way to restrict access for some people while keeping full access for yourself, all on one key. A master key system makes sense when:

  • Staff lock up and open up on days you are not there
  • Some parts of the building should be off limits to some employees
  • You want fewer keys on everyone’s ring, and fewer keys to lose

A master key system is a real asset to a secure business. If you need one installed or repaired, call Simply The Best Locksmith. We can plan and fit a master key system for your premises quickly.

Anywhere in the Lehigh Valley or the five counties around it (Lehigh, Northampton, Montgomery, Berks and Bucks), Simply The Best Locksmith is ready to secure your building. Call (484) 237-1233.

How a Master Key System Is Built

Each cylinder is pinned so that two or more different keys will open it: the individual key for that door and the master key above it. Larger buildings can add levels, for example a department key that opens one floor and a grand master that opens everything.

Planning It Properly

  • List every door and who needs to open it
  • Group doors by area or department
  • Decide how many levels the building needs
  • Use restricted keyways where possible so keys cannot be copied at a hardware store

We keep a record of the keying chart so future changes, a new office, a lost key, a new employee, can be made without starting over.

A master key is powerful, so it should be held by as few people as possible. If one is ever lost, the system can be rekeyed in stages rather than replacing every lock.
