Please Don’t Try to Pull It Out

The broken piece is pressed against the pins inside the lock. Pliers, tweezers and glue usually push it deeper or bend the pins, and then the lock has to be replaced. Leave it in place and call.

• Check that the lock turns and locks properly afterward
• Cut you a new key, often from the broken piece itself
• Look at why it broke: a worn key, a stiff lock or a door that is out of line
